Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do to get bags of supplies?

If you only need a few bags, you can stop by our location during any of our open hours. If you need 10 or more bags, we ask that you get in touch with us at least 2 weeks before your trip. Bags can be shipped anywhere in the U.S.

How much will each bag cost me?

Nothing, we are happy to give them to any mission or service team - because of our blessings we want to bless children around the world by giving them a chance to use art supplies. Donations are accepted but not expected when you take bags. We are a 501C3 nonprofit and $35 pays for one full bag.

Is there a limit to how many bags I can get?

We do not limit the number of bags we give out, however the larger the number of bags needed the more time we would need to be able to fill your request.

Can you ship bags to me in Africa/China/Romania, etc?

We do not ship bags overseas due to the expense and unreliability of international shipping. In many countries a customs fee is charged to the person collecting the package which would be unaffordable to many people.

How many bags should I take for my team?

Each bag contains enough for 50 children to complete 4 projects (Yes that is 200 projects per bag!). Each bag weighs roughly 7 pounds and must be fit into checked luggage as there are scissors and glue - usually a team of 10 people can fit 5 bags at the most.

What if I don't speak the language where we're going?

No problem, the projects are easy enough to teach by example and we have the instructions in many languages.

How can I help if I'm not going on a service trip?

We always need volunteers to paint and fill the bags - it is a fun way to volunteer by yourself or with friends and family. You can help over a lunch hour by coming during open hours OR you can set a special time for your group to volunteer - even having a potluck or dessert party at AFN.

You can also shop in the Art for the Nations boutique. Everything we sell is donated to the store and 100% of the proceeds go directly toward purchasing art supplies.

What if I'm a terrible artist or don't want to paint?

You really can make a bag look beautiful - even young children paint them, but if you'd rather not, there are many other ways to help.

My organization would like to paint 10/20/100 bags at our location, is that possible?

All volunteering to paint and fill bags is done at our beautiful location, which was generously given to us, in Denver, CO. We feel it is important for volunteers to come to Art for the Nations so you can experience the full story of our organization through pictures of children doing the art projects, watching our video and seeing where all the bags have gone around the world. And, as you may know, each bag contains enough supplies for 50 children to complete 4 different projects and weigh roughly 7 pounds, so if your organization wants to make 10 bags that would equal 70 pounds of supplies that would need to be transported as well. We are simply not equipped to handle these requests.
